Cindee Evenson’s Top 10 Web Sites

Here are 10 web sites that I find useful:

  1. http://www.eduplace.com/math/brain/

This website has a problem of the week for varied age levels.  Each week there is a new problem, a hint in case the student can’t get it, and the answer for the problem from the week before.  Also the site has brain teasers and other math activities.

  1. http://www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history

The history of many aspects of mathematics is included in this website.  It also includes biographies of many mathematicians and defines and explains the history of famous curves-like circles.  This would be a great site to do with math students reporting on the history of mathematics.

  1. http://daniel.aero.calpoly.edu/~dfrc/Robin

This site has activities for many ages, including upper levels.  Many of the activities are multidisciplinary, and there are many different things to do with each lesson.

  1. http://www.keloland.com

If you want local or national news, weather, sports, marketwatch, or many other kinds of information, this is a great site!

  1. http://www.runnersworld.com

This is a site that I go to often, both personally and as a cross country coach.  There are links for high school runners, women runners, older runners etc…  There is information on nutrition, motivation and all kinds of tips for runners.

  1. http://msn.com

A popular spot for news, entertainment, travel etc… that has something for everyone.

  1. http://soundamerica.com

I just learned about this site during TTL, and I assume I will use it often for sound clips from movies, T.V. , cartoons etc.

  1. http://nyelabs.kcts.org

A great spot for anyone that teaches science!  Bill Nye, the Science Guy has a daily demonstration that lists all materials needed, instructions, and what the experiment teaches.  Also, he answers questions and lists all his shows.  This site makes science fun.

  1. http://windyweb.com

I learned about this website at TTL. It is a good place to download all kinds of graphics.

  1. http://kicksports.com/

This site has good information for coaching.  It includes everything from sports medicine to calendars that feature running events.  They also allow you to subscribe to a list where you get periodic e-mails.
